Lakers handle Buffalo State, win 4-2

The Oswego State Lakers defeated the Buffalo State Bengals 4-2 Friday night in Oswego. With the win, the improve their record to 5-4-1, while the Bengals  fall to 4-4-3.

Buffalo State tacked on the first goal of the game when Ryan Salked knocked a rebound past Oswego goalie Adrian Ignagni at 4:29. Lakers would return the favor with a goal of their own as David Ferreira scored his third goal of the season on a cross ice pass. Joey Davies sent the pass near the right face off circle and and Ferreira buried it on Begnal’s goalie Matt DeLaVergne’s stick side.

The Lakers would take the lead in the second period with a Kenny Neil tacked on his fifth goal of the season. Matt Galati sent a pass from center ice to Alex Botten off of the boards and Botten played it perfectly, bringing it down the far side. Botten passed it to Neil from the face off circle as Neil was crashing the net and put it past DeLaVergne to give his team the lead.

Oswego would tack on a pair of goals in the third as Waterstreet beat DeLaVernge glove-side on a slap shot and Joey Davies would take a cross-ice pass from Ferreira to expand the lead to three goals.

The Lakers outshot the Bengals 54-24 on the night, just dominating them on the offensive end with a relentless attack.

Oswego returns to the Marano Campus Center tomorrow night at 7 p.m. against SUNY Fredonia in the annual ‘Teal Gate’ game, in support of ovarian cancer awareness and research. The Lakers will be wearing teal jerseys and will be looking to sweep the weekend series with a win against the Blue Devils.
