The St. Thomas Tommies defeated the Oswego State Lakers 3-2 Friday afternoon at the Utica Memorial Auditorium to take the opening game of the Utica College Thanksgiving Showcase.
The deciding goal was scored by Ben Vikich late in the third period on a 2-1 after an Oswego turnover in their own zone.
Willie Faust and Jordan Lovick scored the other two goals, in the first and second period, respectively. Faust’s goal was a power play goal, the fifth given up by the Lakers this season.
Andrew Barton of Oswego continued his recent scoring streak, scoring his fourth goal in the past three contests with a power play goal in the second period, with assists from Sean Federow and Chris Raguseo on the play. Kenny Neil would tack on another goal later in the second period to tie the score.
Adrian Ignagni started in the goal for the Lakers, saving 30 of 33 shots in his third consecutive start.
Joe Morris got the victory, blocking just one more shot than his opponent, 31. Both teams had 33 shots on goal.
The Lakers will play tomorrow at 7 p.m. against St. John’s at 4 p.m., while the Tommies will play Utica College at 7 p.m.
