Laker Gameday Preview: Volleyball vs. SUNY New Paltz

The Oswego State volleyball team will continue its season for at least one more day as they go up against the second-seeded SUNY New Paltz Hawks in the semifinals of the SUNYAC Tournament. This will be the second matchup between these two teams, as the Hawks won the first matchup in the regular season 3-1.

The lone set the Lakers won was the third one, winning it 25-14.

Oswego carries a lot of momentum into the game today, coming back to defeat SUNY Fredonia three sets to two yesterday. Originally down two sets to one, the Lakers stormed back behind the offensive power of Ariel Murawski, Kelsey Dillon and Megan Russell.

Oswego will need a more efficient offense if they look to upset the Hawks. It was clear in the second and third sets that their offense not getting the results they wanted hurt their defense, as Fredonia was able to get cleaner looks on offense.

New Paltz has been one of the best teams in the SUNYAC within the past few years and are favorites up to this point against the Lakers.

However, the Laker squad is coming in with both momentum and confidence and is looking to finally get past the SUNYAC semifinals and finally get their chance in the finals.

For the Lakers to do so, not only will they need to use every inch of their size with a pair of freshman, Ariel Murawski and Allison Sullivan, who are 6’2 and 6’0, respectively.

Emma Moriarty will also need to have a better game, as she had more errors than kills yesterday. While Murawski, Dillon and Russell are seen as the primary or secondary attackers whenever on the court, Moriarty needs to be the valuable tertiary option to held her team out.

The winner of this matchup will go up against either one seed Brockport or five seed Cortland.

The game is set to start at 3 p.m. at The College at Brockport.
