Quick Recap: Women’s ice hockey vs. Castleton State

The Lakers got off to another fast start and took advantage of the Spartans’ apparent road legs. They led 20-3 in shots in the first and controlled the pace of the play entirely but the first period ended 0-0.

The Spartans did a good job of taking away shooting lanes by collapsing their defense to the slot and it worked as Jess Cameron stopped all Oswego State threats.

The middle frame was dominated by the Lakers once again and once again they couldn’t bury any chances. The Spartans took advantage of their chances and buried two goals to take a 2-0 lead in the second period.

Taylor Steadman scored on a pass across the slot from Brianna Keats to open the scoring at the 7:40 mark. Sabrina Hosner also assisted on this goal

Then the Spartans scored a power play goal at the 18:03 mark of the second as a puck squirted out to Brianna Keats in the circle and she buried it. Aimee Briand was credited with an assist on that goal.

Jess Cameron dominated her crease tonight stopping all 41 shots she has faced so far. She robbed Alex Aramburu as she slid across the crease to seal the post and keep the Spartans’ lead intact.

Oswego State won the third period but still fell in this game. Rachel Lenard tapped in a rebound on an Olivia Ellis shot to cut the lead in half. Alexa Aramburu got the secondary assist on that goal. The Lakers finally beat Jess Cameron and it took 45 shots to do so.

The Spartans answered right back when Taylor Steadman scored her second goal of the game on a pass from Brianna Keats. Those two killed the Lakers with their ability to create chances all night.

Oswego made it interesting late with a power play goal. Alexa Aramburu tapped in a rebound to make it 3-2 at the 19:18 mark. Alli Ullrich and Andrea Noss got assists.

The Lakers fell to 0-1-1 this year and the Spartans climbed to 2-0-0 after this game. The Lakers led in shots 57-16 but couldn’t prevail.
