Laker Gameday Preview: Women’s Hockey vs Castleton State College

The Lakers will play another non conference game today against the Castleton State College Spartans at 3 p.m at the Marano Campus Center Ice Arena. Yesterday the Lakers knocked off New England College with a dominating 5-0 win at home.

Castleton comes off a 3-0 win against Cortland yesterday and look to keep playing well and try to beat a very good Oswego State team.

The Spartans had 10 players score double digit points last year and already have had 9 reach the score sheet in one game. Their high octane offense should be a good test for Oswego State after they only let up 16 shots against the Pilgrims last night.

Oswego will start their starting goalie, Tori Trovato, she missed yesterday’s game due to the flu. Castleton, playing a back to back could go with another goalie tonight but since their starter, Jess Cameron, posted a 27 save shutout last night she will get the nod once again.

Players to Watch

Oswego State: Kendall Appelbaum

The defenseman and forward for the Lakers played great yesterday. She scored a powerplay goal and created all kinds of havoc for New England using her size to create opportunities. Look for her to play a similar roll again to try to help bring Oswego to victory.

Castleton State College: Anna Daniels

The senior from Castleton has a similar game to Appelbaum and she led the Spartans in points last year with 24. She also tallied a team high 11 goals. Look for her and Brianna Rice to match up all night long in a heated battle. She should give the the relatively small Oswego State defense some trouble.

Game Prediction

With both teams coming off a game last night the pace may be slow early, especially for the Spartans who have been traveling a lot the past two days. This one should come down to whoever is better conditioned. It will be a goalie battle with two great goaltenders in net. The third period will be huge in this tilt.

Final Score: Spartans win 2-1
