Laker Gameday Preview: April 11 vs. SUNY Fredonia (DH)

The Oswego State softball team is in action on Saturday afternoon, facing off with the SUNY Fredonia Blue Devils in a doubleheader at Laker Softball Field.

Having battled the weather, the Lakers (3-7, 1-3) enter their home opener on the heels of two losses, in a doubleheader against the SUNY Geneseo Knights on April 3.

In the first loss junior Lisa O’Callaghan suffered her third defeat of the year from the circle, as the team allowed eight runs in the final two innings, despite leading after the first frame.

O’Callaghan led the Lakers to another lead in the second game as it carried 3-1 edge heading to the fifth, before being outscored 10-0 in the final two innings.

SUNY Fredonia (9-8, 6-0) enters the afternoon winners of six straight games, one win over the .500 mark after dropping five straight games to begin the season. The Blue Devils took both games of a doubleheader against the SUNY Plattsburgh Cardinals last weekend in Fredonia.

The visitors have built their win streak in no small part to senior pitcher Kelsey Gannett, who leads the team with a 2.93 ERA in an impressive 43 innings pitched. Junior infielder Alyssa Morgan has been a catalyst on the offensive side with a .407 batting average, while netting the most at bats on the team.

The Lakers and Blue Devils split the season series in 2014 picking up one victory apiece. Oswego State has not lost to SUNY Fredonia at home since 2011.

First pitch in game one is scheduled for 2 p.m. with game two set to start at 4 p.m.
