Laker Gameday Preview: Feb. 14 v. Stevenson University

The Oswego State Lakers and the Stevenson Mustangs take to the ice again for the second game of their two-game weekend series. It is Senior Day in Oswego as the Lakers play their home regular season finale, and honor lone senior Bridget Smith.

The Lakers defeated the Mustangs Friday night 2-0, in what was their 100th win in program history, all of which have been under the leadership of head coach Diane Dillon.

Dillon has been the coach since the program’s re-birth during 2006-2007 season.

Brianna Rice and Olivia Ellis, both top goal scorers on the Lakers scored last night. Rice notched her 11th goal of the season, and Ellis got her ninth. Ellis still leads the team in points with 21, two points ahead of Rice.

Smith recorded her sixth shutout of the season, which now makes her second in Div. III. Smith also saved all 20 shots that came her way, and still maintains the top spot in the nation with a .961 save percentage.

The Lakers still remain one point behind No.2 Plattsburgh State in the ECAC West conference standings, and that will not change this weekend with Stevenson being a non-conference opponent.

However, this game today will be significant in creating momentum for next weekend’s matchup against No.1 Elmira College. A win against the best team in the nation next weekend could possibly propel them to the second seed in the ECAC West, and a higher chance of being ranked in the USCHO.com national top ten rankings.
