Tonight at 7 p.m. at the Marano Campus Ice Arena, the Oswego Women’s hockey will play in their first regular season home game, also the first game of their SUNYAC conference play, playing the first of their two games this weekend against SUNY Cortland.
So far this season, the Lakers are 1-1 in games against Castleton State College and New England College, losing 0-2, and winning 4-0, respectively.
While only outscoring their first two opponents 4-2, the Lakers have outshot their opponents 66-48, and have controlled face-offs and time of possession so far through the season.
SUNY Cortland has also played both Castleton State and New England College on the road, as Oswego did, and came away with the same results. They come into today’s matchup with a tied goal differential, 4-4.
The Lakers have an advantageous matchup against Cortland today, as they have never lost to Red Dragons under Coach Dillon. In this past eight years, they have a 10-0-7 record, and have outscored them 39-19. Knowing that they’ve played almost at the same level so far this year, the Lakers have to feel confident about their chances against a familiar opponent.
Of the four goals they have scored this year, no one on Oswego has multiple goals or assists. Brianna Rice, Lydia Cosgrove, Andrea Noss, and Alli Ulrich have all scored this year, while Erika Truschke, Olivia Ellis, Ashley Lyman, and Rachel Lenard have all assisted.
The Lakers have shown their dominance at home, going 10-4 last year, and favors them because Cortland went 1-10-1 last year on the road.
