On Monday, the co-rec recreational soccer intramural championship game took place on Lee Field. Skillz that Killz faced off against Fake Madrid. Both teams earned automatic seeds in the playoffs and swept through the competition leading up to the championship game.

Although the bitter cold Oswego weather set in, both teams brought an intensity to win the game and earn the neon yellow championship T-shirt. Not even 10 seconds into the game, Josh Stuper of Fake Madrid kicked the ball from the mid-line that hit off the goal post and into the net. Later in the half, Gregory Stitt of Fake Madrid had a breakaway that gave him a clear shot of the goal, earning another point for the team.

Dylan LaBadia came back with a goal from Skillz that Killz, to bring the score to 2-1 by the half time.

The intensity continued through the game, but both teams’ defense held its ground and hindered any goals from being scored, allowing Fake Madrid to come out on top as the winner of the league.

“We played really hard in the season, so it feels great to win,” said Kyleigh Kinney, a standout player and leader of the team’s efforts in the league. “Our biggest strength is that we worked together as a team, and we all had a lot of fun.”

In other intramural sports news, the badminton, basketball and floor hockey leagues began this week. Be sure to sign up for upcoming events, such as free swim lessons, Halloween bowling and the water basketball tournament.
