After defeating its rivals the Plattsburgh State Cardinals last night, Oswego State capped off White Out Weekend with a victory over the SUNY Potsdam Bears, 78-49.
The Lakers scored the game’s first eight points and would not let up from there, as tough defensive pressure would halt the Bears’ offense throughout the opening 20 minutes of play.
Seven different Lakers scored in the first half, with Rashawn Powell, Daniel Ross and Kyle Covley leading the way scoring eight points each. The Lakers led by an overwhelming score of 41-6 at halftime.
The Lakers did not slow down offensively in the second half. In combination with their efforts from the opening half they finished the game shooting 49.9 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range.
Ross led Oswego State in scoring on the afternoon with 18 points, while adding a team-high four steals. Powell and Covley joined the senior captain in double figures as they scored 16 and 10 respectively. Powell and Mark Candelario shared the team-high for rebounds with seven apiece, combining for one-third of the team’s 41 rebounds overall.
The defense wasn’t as dominant in the second half, but the offense was able to keep up the pace and secure the win.
With the victory the Lakers improve to 6-1 on the season (2-0 in the SUNYAC). The Lakers will play their final game of the fall term this upcoming Friday Dec. 13 at home versus Cazenovia College at 8 P.M.
