When it comes to sports on the Oswego State campus none is more popular than men’s ice hockey. This year, The Oswegonian is providing a blog to fans to quench their thirst for news on the players and their games.
This blog, known as the Laker Ledger, will spend kickoff month, October, providing features on the returning players, as well as a series finale in the form of an overall season preview. The series will culminate in the days leading up to Oswego State’s season opener on Nov. 1 against SUNY Fredonia at the Campus Center Ice Arena.
The preseason coverage will be focused on acclemating fans with the returning Lakers, who may be unfamiliar to fans since the past four seasons showcased the large class of 2013 heavily.
The graduating Lakers from last season were one of the most decorated groups in Oswego State history. The 14 men in the class accrued 99 overall wins, two SUNYAC tournament titles, four SUNYAC regular season titles, four NCAA Div. III semifinal appearances and two NCAA Div. III championship appearances.
However, with those guys graduated, it is now time for the nine returners and head coach Ed Gosek to come to the forefront and lead a squad with 20 new members in the upcoming season.
The Laker Ledger will sit down with those nine men over the next four weeks and discuss the 2013-14 season and each player’s expectations, so fans can flood the Campus Center on Nov. 1 with a firm grasp on who exactly they’re cheering for.
As the season progresses, the Ledger will provide game recaps, features on new players, discussion with coaches and interesting stories surrounding the men’s hockey program.
So, sit back, relax and enjoy the content because it may be 29 days until puck drop, but the 2013-2014 hockey season starts now.
