Taste the World provides fresh coffee, speciality foods in one locale

While walking into Canal Commons, the smell of freshly brewed coffee draws the attention of many to Taste the World, a small specialty food and coffee shop at 193 W. 1st St.

Entering the store, customers are greeted with a range of selections. Items sold at Taste the World are not usually found in your average grocery store. The store offers variety, from fresh beverages, spices, sauces, chesses, mixers and spreads. Burlap sacks full of fresh coffee beans are ready for brewing. A wall of sauces hot enough to pop any taste bud and crafted herb tea line the walls, and are just some of the items that make this store unique.

Yet it is the Grecian oils, French artisan cheeses and the Mexican spices, combined with the German pirogues and Italian pastas that give this store its name.

The main attraction of the store is its creation of fresh beverages, all of which would give Starbucks a run for their money. The menu includes cappuccinos, frappes, ice coffee, and Oswego Signature Blends that are served along with the seasonal smoothies or pumpkin coffee. Taste the World also has a popular favorite.

“Definitely the mochacchino,” Jordan Oatman, a Taste the World employee. “Even for myself, before working here I was never really a coffee drinking but that drink in particular made me become such a coffee lover.”

This specialty store does not just serve quality foods, coffee and service. To further its commitment to making customers feel at home, the store hosts a “Mug of Music” the first and third Fridays of every month from 7 p.m.-9 p.m., everyone is invited to relax with some friends and enjoy some of the town’s local musicians with a favorite cup of coffee. Taste the World features different musicians every week for the public entertainment.

Store hours include, Monday-Wednesday, 8 a.m.-7 p.m., Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m.- 7.p.m. and Sunday, 12 p.m.-5 p.m.
