VENTURE FORTH, DISCOVER

While the dining halls on campus can provide all-you-can-eat meals in easy to access locations, Oswego State students living in residence halls should also consider venturing off-campus for a meal in the city of Oswego from time to time.

Though off-campus restaurants can be expensive and, for those without cars, difficult to reach, students should still consider splurging every now and then and treating themselves to a nice meal. Gathering friends together and carpooling out to have a meal is a great way to get everyone together and provide a momentary escape from the stresses of college life.

The city of Oswego sometimes receives a bad reputation among students on campus, but it does have a lot more to offer than students may realize. Within the city limits, Oswego State students can find dining options ranging from pizza-by-the-slice to gourmet duck. The Canal Commons area on West First Street is an area of the city that would likely surprise the majority of Oswego State students who haven’t been. It includes several cafés, restaurants and places to grab a cup of coffee, all in recently remodeled buildings. When looking for an escape from the monotony of dining hall meals, students should consider heading down and giving the area a look.

Students living in residence halls can sometimes become too insulated within the campus, leaving students unaware of the experiences the city can provide. Going out for a meal, whether at a pizza joint downtown or one of Oswego’s numerous and varied sit down restaurants, can provide students with a perfect excuse to get out and adventure through Oswego’s downtown area.

So, students of Oswego State, venture forth and take in as much of Oswego as you can, you will not regret it.
