New ObamaCare provision insists pregnancy dangerous to women

The latest controversy dominating the news is the newest provision in the Affordable Care Act, affectionately known as Obama Care. Free birth control and sterilization coverage are mandated under ObamaCare 2010. Which means all employers, including religious institutions whose doctrines prohibit it, provide employees contraceptives without cost.

The Catholic Church, which holds the largest number of institutions, has come out in strong opposition of the mandate. The Catholic religion’s doctrine has always forbidden the use of contraception with the exception of the “Rhythm Method.”

Bill Donohue, head of the Catholic League, has stated that Catholic officials will stop at nothing to put an end to it. He went on to say that a large portion of Catholics are Democrats and many had been supporters of Obama in 2008, but if this mandate is upheld it could cost him the re-election. We can only hope.

Pro-choice groups spoke out stating that they will fight the church for the right of women employed by Catholic institutions to have access to contraceptive services at no cost to the employee.

Democratic Wisconsin Congresswoman Gwendolynne Moore spoke out in favor of the provision stating that, “The National Institute of Health has said that it is a danger to women’s health and safety of their families, that for 30 years, to be exposed to the prospects of pregnancy.”

According to the National Abortion Rights Action League President Andrea Miller, “The health and well being of millions of American women are at stake.”

There you have it, the insane tactics of the Left, making pregnancy a hazard to women and the family. I’m curious if they realize that pregnancy is necessary to start a family and that according to the many commercial ads for contraceptives, there is an endless list of possible side effects associated with their use.

On Feb. 10, Obama addressed the nation with an announcement that he would “accommodate” religious groups. The media was ablaze with headlines stating that Obama had “caved” to Catholics and compromised on the mandate. Religious institutions will not have to provide free contraceptives; however, their insurance carriers must.

Obama is telling insurance companies that they must eat the cost. Of course the insurance companies will allocate the cost to the consumer in the form of higher premiums. So in the end, the churches still pay.

This is not an issue about women’s health or that contraceptives are too expensive. Generic birth control pills cost $10 a month. They are covered by Medicaid. If a woman cannot afford it on her own, they can get it free through government funded Planned Parenthood. They can also get free condoms at any school or college. Hell, they give them out like candy.

No, the real issue here is freedom. The Obama regime is now attempting to reach into our churches and overturn religious doctrines. This is yet another attack on our Constitution. The First Amendment clearly states that, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Where is the outrage over separation of church and state? Only when it suits the Left do they cry out.

In an article by Stanislay Mishin in the Russian periodical Pravda entitled “American Capitalism Gone With a Whimper, Mishin made fun of the ignorance of the American people for not paying attention to what is going on in their own government.

Within the article he stated that Marxism was a danger to freedom and socialism would enslave society. He explains what had happened to his country when Marxist rulers took over and now it’s happening to us. He states that the world is watching and snickering as we are clueless to this Marxist president.

We have seen our freedoms and our rights violated by this presidency and his administration and yet we turn a blind eye. Obama is no longer hiding the Left’s agenda. On Feb. 12, newly appointed White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew made his rounds on the Sunday news talk shows. He stated on national television, “The president has the authority under the Affordable Care Act to have these kinds of rules take effect.”

Oh no he does not; it is in clear violation of the Constitution. He took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. What Obama and his administration are doing is treasonous. If they are allowed to continue without consequence, he and his administration will eventually take away our liberties and freedoms.

Perhaps you feel that this is not a major issue. That it only involves Catholics.

It may be birth control today, but what about tomorrow?

Martin Niemöller wrote, “first they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I didn’t care. Then they came for the Roman Catholics, but I was not a Roman Catholic, so I didn’t care. Then they came for me, but there was no one left to care.” This should be a wake-up call.

  1. You mean to tell me that you’ve never heard of certain medical conditions that, indeed, make pregnancy very dangerous? There are several. And what about the many diseases that are actually treated by birth control ? Look it up. And in the future, do your research before writing an article such as this one.

    • Paula,

If you read the article thoroughly, it is not about pregnancy. Birth control pills as well as other contraceptives can have dangerous effects as well. There is a long list of possible side effects and yes some women can have certain problems with pregnancy as well. However the point of the article is a loss of freedom. The government getting involved where it shouldn’t. Would you rather have your own say in what you do or are you quite happy letting the government run your life? Do you want to pay for others birthcontrol when it is free at Planned Parenthood? If it were a Conservative administration trying to outlaw abortion, I’m sure you would be singing a different tune. Read the article again, you’ll get the point.

  2. In my opinion, it is an issue very women should be aware of. Or rather everybody on that matter since we would all be affected by this. But with this contraceptive issue, I think they should consider the wellness of every woman. I for one still doesn’t like ObamaCare. here are some of the reason why I don’t: http://reallycheaphealthinsurance.com/religious-conservatives-angered-by-health-insurance-requirement-on-contraceptives/ and http://news.yahoo.com/religious-insurers-claim-obamacare-gives-us-one-abandon-223500143.html

  3. The point is their are two major human rights in jeopardy of being violated here, the church’s and women’s and they come into conflict. So where should the government side is the issue. I think that the right of many individuals rights supersede the right of the church on this one.
I agree that the government is suppressing many of our civil liberties, no one pays attention because something shiny is on TV, and we should pay more attention and do our best to hold the government responsible for it’s violations. But the issues here is more of a conflict of interest between two groups civil liberties in which a choice must be and a compromise reached. Also the catholic church is no angle in matters of separation of church and state.
