Cortland Red Dragons 7                  Brockport Golden Eagles 5

Alumni Arena (Attendance: 374)

SUNY Cortland and the College at Brockport combined for nine goals in the second period alone in a 7-5 victory for the Red Dragons at Alumni Arena. The Golden Eagles (0-3-1 overall, 0-2-1 SUNYAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Brendon Rothfuss’ goal 22 seconds into the second period, but Cortland (2-1-0 overall, 1-1-0 SUNYAC) scored four of the next five goals to take a 4-3 lead. Rothfuss scored his second goal of the game to tie the contest at four and Chris Cangro scored at 14:42 of the second period to give the Golden Eagles a 5-4 lead. Cortland’s Nick Zappia tied the game heading into the second period intermission. Michael Lysyj registered the game-winning goal 4:03 into the third period for the Red Dragons, earning their first SUNYAC win this season. Zappia recorded a two-goal game, scoring an empty-net goal with 44 seconds remaining to seal the victory.

Fredonia Blue Devils 5                Morrisville State Mustangs 1

The Iceplex (Attendance: 750)

Trailing 1-0 after the first period, SUNY Fredonia scored five unanswered goals en route to a 5-1 victory over Morrisville State College at the Iceplex. Fredonia’s Stephen Castriota tallied the game-winning goal with 28 seconds remaining in the second period while playing 4-on-4 hockey. The Blue Devils (3-1-1 overall, 1-1-1 SUNYAC) outshot the Mustangs (1-2-0 overall, 1-2-0 SUNYAC) 19-10 in the decisive second period. The Blue Devils registered 36 penalty minutes on just seven penalties, but Morrisville finished 0-for-3 on the power play. Fredonia’s Tyler Matecki received a five-minute checking from behind penalty along with a 10-minute game misconduct in the first period and Jared Wynia received a five-minute checking from behind penalty along with a 10-minute game misconduct as well. Fredonia goalie Mark Friesen recorded 27 saves to earn the win, bouncing back from a tie against Brockport and a 2-1 loss at Geneseo last weekend.

Oswego State Lakers 4             Geneseo Ice Knights 2

Campus Center Ice Arena (Attendance: 2,803)

In a battle of potentially the two best teams in the SUNYAC this season, the Lakers received two goals from team captain Andrew Mather and withstood a two-goal performance from Geneseo’s Zachary Vit, as the Lakers defeated the Ice Knights, 4-2, at the Campus Center Ice Arena. The Lakers (4-1-0 overall, 2-0-0 SUNYAC) outshot the Ice Knights (2-2-0 overall, 2-1-0 SUNYAC) 50-22 for the game, including 26-6 in the third period. Oswego State’s Jon Whitelaw added a goal and an assist for the Lakers. Mather recorded the game-winning goal at 1:01 in the second period to give the Lakers a 3-1 lead. Leading 3-2 mid way through the third period, Oswego State’s Matt Singleton gave the Lakers a comfortable two-goal lead. Andrew Hare made 20 saves for the Lakers and Geneseo goaltender Adrian Rubeniuk made 46 saves for the Ice Knights.
