Geneseo Ice Knights 4             Buffalo State Bengals 3            F/OT

Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena, Geneseo, N.Y. (Attendance: 1,780)

It looked as if the Buffalo State Bengals were going to leave Geneseo with an important early-season conference victory, but the Geneseo Ice Knights had other ideas. With an extra attacker, Geneseo’s Zachary Vit scored the game-tying goal with just 0.9 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime. Geneseo’s Clint Olson scored the game-winning goal 17 seconds into overtime to give the Ice Knights their first win of the season. Buffalo State scored three unanswered goals by Dave Lansdowne, Drew Klin and Jim Durham to give the Bengals a 3-1 lead with 11:55 remaining in regulation. Geneseo’s Cory Gershon made 26 saves to earn the win in net for the Ice Knights.

Tuttle North Ice Arena, Brockport, N.Y. (Attendance: 1,300)

Brockport’s Mike Hayward scored the game-tying goal at 11:51 of the third period on the power play to force a tie with the visiting Fredonia Blue Devils on Friday night. Fredonia (2-0-1 overall, 0-0-1 SUNYAC) fired off four shots compared to Brockport’s one in overtime, but were unable to score. Brockport (0-1-1 overall, 0-0-1 SUNYAC) scored three unanswered goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead before the Blue Devils answered right back with three unanswered goals of their own to take a 4-3 lead with 18:16 remaining in regulation. Brockport’s Mike Holander registered two assists and goalie Oliver When recorded 36 saves.

Morrisville Mustangs 4                  Potsdam Bears 1

The Iceplex, Morrisville, N.Y. (Attendance: 750)

The Mustangs wasted no time against the Bears, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first 12 minutes of the first period on goals by Geoff Matzel and Taylor Vince. Morrisville (1-0-0 overall, 1-0-0 SUNYAC) pushed its lead to three at 6:55 of the second period before Potsdam (0-1-0 overall, 0-1-0 SUNYAC)  scored its only goal of the game at 12:47 of the frame. The Mustangs added a goal with under five minutes remaining in regulation to preserve the victory. Morrisville outshot Potsdam 46-27, but neither team was able to capitalize on extra man opportunities, as both teams finished 0-for-7 on the power play.
