Student charged in flooding of Riggs Hall’s second floor

A game of hallway football in Riggs Hall on Sunday night ended in an arrest Monday.

Dylan Soeffing was arrested Monday for recklessly endangering property and criminal mischief of the fourth degree, after he threw a football which damaged the sprinkler system.

University Police responded to a fire alarm at Riggs Hall at 8:44 p.m., according to Assistant Chief John Rossi.

“They found on the second floor between [rooms] 222 and 228, a large amount of water was being discharged from a broken sprinkler head,” Rossi said.

The residents on the second floor of the north wing, the one that stretches toward the lake, had to find other places to stay that night.

Soeffing was released on an appearance ticket and will appear in the town of Oswego court on Oct. 3.
