Williams remembered during funeral service

A funeral service was held for U.S. Navy Lt. Nathan Hollingsworth Williams on Monday at Sheldon Hall.

Williams, an Oswego native, was killed during a flight training exercise in California on April 6, at the age of 28.

As a member of the Navy, Williams was a Weapons Systems Operator and entered flight school in 2006 with Lt. Jerald Humphrey.

Once in the Navy, Williams earned the nickname "Beefcake," after a "South Park" character and a comedic incident, said Humphrey during the service.

Commanding officers held Williams in the highest of esteem.

"He held that sacred trust that you have to have as a commanding officer," Cmdr. Walt Slaughter, USN, said.

The funeral service was entitled "Celebration to Life," to remember Williams.

"Even though Beefcake may have been taken from us prematurely, it was my honor and privilege to know him," Slaughter said.
