Oswego State and the Alumni Association have invited all alumni to reconnect with old friends, visit faculty, see the improvements on campus and celebrate the 150th anniversary of the school.
"The Alumni Association is working with close to 90 alumni volunteers in the planning of this year’s special Sesquicentennial Reunion Celebration 2011, scheduled for June 10-12," Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations Betsy Oberst said. "Special touches are still in the planning stages, but in addition to the milestone anniversary classes, this year all alumni will be invited to attend."
Not only will this celebration be a chance to reconnect with classmates and teachers but alumni will also be able to reunite with their past fraternal social organizations.
"There are also 17 affinity group reunions being held in conjunction with this year’s reunion, including the 85th anniversary of Delta Kappa Kappa and the 25th anniversary of Alpha Epsilon Phi," Oberst said.
Many events have been planned for this special event. Some special touches in the planning stages include:Alumni Night at the Oswego Farmer’s Market on Thursday night and a birthday cake at the all-alumni "I Love N.Y. " dinner on Saturday night. Also there will be special commemorative Sesquicentennial Reunion memorabilia, a DVD titled "Views and Voices – Alumni Reminiscences" will debut at the reunion and "I Love N.Y." foods theme throughout the weekend. A special commemorative Finger Lakes wine, a Sesquicentennial/Community 5K Fun Run/Walk and an antique trolley shuttle around campus adds to the list, Oberst said.
The hope is to engage Oswego alumni, the local community, and the wider New York State community in this year’s reunion celebration," Oberst said.
Another part of the sesquicentennial celebration is the Flat Founder. Flat Founder, an unmistakable Laker landmark, is one you can take with you wherever you go. It is a printable version of Edward Austin Sheldon, the founder of Oswego State. One can easily print it off the SUNY Oswego Sesquicentennial Reunion Facebook webpage.
You will take the (printable) founder with you and then post your pictures to our Facebook page," Shane Liebler communications associate for office of alumni and development said. "We will display all the photos we get in some fashion around the reunion. It will be a way to celebrate Edward Austin Sheldon’s birthday with him."
The college is celebrating its 150th year. It is focusing on the annual reunion weekend and incorporating the sesquicentennial reunion celebration. The reunion will bring back all alumni with a big birthday bash. It brings more people and groups together on one weekend Oberst said.
