Five key games for men’s basketball team

"11/19 vs York College—The season opener for the Lakers is a big one. It’s the second year of the Adam Stockwell campaign and everyone associated is excited about this year’s Lakers squad. It will be important to see if the Lakers can remain balanced offensively and not just defer to forward Chad Burridge. Someone else needs to step up and hit big shots. Stockwell is hoping for 80 points a game this year; we’ll get an idea if that’s realistic tonight.

"12/3 at Fredonia—The conference opener for the Lakers finds them on the road against a Blue Devils team that finished tied for fifth a season ago. The Lakers split with Fredonia last season. The Blue Devils were the lowest scoring team in the SUNYAC last season, but also had the best scoring defense. If the Lakers can force the tempo and get Fredonia out of their comfort zone, they should be successful. If it becomes a defensive struggle, it’s a toss up.

"1/14 vs Potsdam— The Bears finished at the bottom of the conference last season, finishing with a record of 5-20. This is just the second conference home game for Oswego and the Lakers need to take care of business against a weak team, especially at home.

"1/15 vs Plattsburgh—This is not just a meaningful game on the ice, it is important on the hardwood as well. This game is why the Lakers need to take care of Potsdam the night before. Plattsburgh swept the Lakers last season en route to winning the conference regular season and SUNYAC tournament. Plattsburgh begins the season ranked #21 in the nation by the DIII news. It should be a good gauge for where Oswego sits.

"1/22 at Brockport—The Golden Eagles also swept Oswego last year, including a three point victory early in the season in Oswego. The Golden Eagles are the model to which Stockwell is using for this Lakers team. The Lakers are going to need to come prepared and control the glass against this guard-driven team.
