Field hockey nets five in win over Elmira

The Oswego State women’s field hockey team was victorious at home Wednesday, Oct. 14, over Elmira College, winning 5-3.

Amy Carey scored her first goal of the season two minutes into the match. Only seven minutes later, Oswego State’s Brittany Roetzer scored to make the score 2-0. Elmira cut the lead to one, but just before halftime Katie Mazuchowski scored for the Lakers, giving them a 3-1 halftime lead.

The second half was filled with just as much scoring. Roetzer, who ended up being Oswego State’s leading scorer for the game with two goals and one assist, spread the lead out to 4-1. Elmira answered back with two more goals scored by Kischko and Veronica Fernandez. Then the Lakers’ Alyssa Hare scored the insurance goal for Oswego State with about five minutes left to play, making the final score 5-3.

Lakers goalie Jamie Scharfe played well, especially near the end of the game, to help the team to victory.
"Jamie knows when she has to dig deep," head coach Brandi Ostrander said, adding that her team "dominated" the game. "We played very well, but there were ups and downs, and Elmira capitalized when we were down."

Oswego State’s next game will be Friday, Oct. 16 as they host Oneonta.
