The Oswego State men’s cross country team placed third and the women’s team placed fourth in the Oswego Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12 behind impressive times from junior Mike Bott and freshman Rachel Sanborn.
Bott, who placed a team-best 10th overall in the 6K Don Masterson Race, finished with a school-record time of 20:28. The Laker men also got a strong showing from junior Samson Dikeman, who finished 14th with a time of 20:48.
Oswego State’s men’s team totaled 83 points to capture a third place finish among the group. SUNY Cortland finished first in the men’s race with a total of 21 points, as Ithaca grabbed second place honors with 35 points. Seven teams competed in the meet.
In the women’s 4.5K Pat Peterson race, Sanborn was first among the Laker women’s team with a time of 18:10, finishing in 13th place. The women finished with a total of 110 points, earning them fourth place for the meet. Finishing 36 points ahead of the Lakers for third place was Cortland, as the Ithaca women finished with 15 points to earn first place.
The finish is an improvement over their performance from last year at their home invitational.
Oswego State will compete in the Houghton Invitational meet on Sept. 26 at Houghton College.
