OSU mascot search heats up

"

Ever wonder what an Oswego Laker is? Well, this coming fall, students may find out.

"

The Student Association passed a resolution to form a committee to create a mascot for Oswego State. Comprised of the Senate Involvement Committee Chairperson, two at-large senators, one off-campus senator, the Civic Engagement director, and the assistant director of Student Affairs, the committee will work on engaging students in the process of selecting a mascot, said S.A. President Chrissy Ballesteros.

"

"What we hope to do is engage students in the process of getting this mascot," Ballesteros said. "Obviously we’re starting a task force because we don’t want it to be too big where we have all these ideas and all these opinions coming at us at once. This will engage students in a more focused manner so that we’re able to get our mascot."

"

Oswego State student Greg Aiello has come up with sketches for a mascot. He presented his ideas at a senate meeting in April to spark student interest. He hopes to see a mascot in place by fall 2009 or spring 2010.

"

"The work is there, the interest is there," Aiello said. "It’s just got to be seen by everybody."

"

According to Student Associations Senator Nicolina Trifunovski, the designs included sailor-type characters, a duck, and a beast referred to as "Ozzy."
